The purpose of any general census is to collect and analyze socio-economic data for all persons residing in a specific country or region at a given time. Analysis of the data yields demographic trends and patterns which are crucial to planners and decision-makers. Kuwait Law No. 27 of 1963 stipulates that a general census of Kuwait’s population and buildings is to be conducted every ten years. The United Nations Economic and Social Committee have proposed that all nations undertake a general census in the year 2011.
The 2011 Kuwait Census will analyze the collected data to map demographic trends and patterns of Kuwait’s total population in areas such as its:
- Growth
- Composition by nationality
- Geographic distribution within Kuwait
- Technological and professional competence
- Employment distribution within the public and private sectors
